I was going through a number of the blogs when I realized that it was
MBGN weekend. What is it? It's the Friday that Nigeria through
Silverbird Group chooses a young lady who's crowned the Most Beautiful
Girl in Nigeria. It used to be one of the shows that I would watch a
child, but not so much as an adult. So, when many of the blogs including
Linda Ikeji Blog, Lailasbog, LadunLiadi's etc were on about the
traditional attires, I decided to take a look. I had become somewhat
disenchanted with the rather fair or what I term bleached some would say
toned looks of many of the contestants. It was become the fairer the
better chance at winning.
Well, I was looking at the pictures
of the show - I didn't watch it, there was no PHCN generated
electricity and I was too lazy to engage the generator and producing
electricity. Histrionics over, I didn't even realize I had eye candy on
television last weekend. But as I was going through the blogs, I saw the
resemblance and I jolted. Who's Iheoma NNADI? What?! Why does she
resemble my friend Martine Bernard from Boston, Massachusetts? They two
looked alike. I looked again. Hia! There was some resemblance I insist,
but she would have done a lot of work to pass for 19 years not that she
was quite 50 years old.
Nnadi was
supposedly a student in South Africa signed to Boss Modeling or so. Who
verified all this information. I don't know and can't provide any
information for anybody. You know the Jesus Christ identity crisis is
similar. Some called Jesus Christ the son of Joseph and Mary while many
of you believe him to be the Son of God. For Miss Nnadi as Martine
Bernard, she would be in her late 40s, Haitian American and already a
graduate of our shared alma mater.
If Miss
Iheoma Nnadi is Martine Bernard, then why all the lies and deception?
She used to wear her hair natural and spoke French. She was a hard
working student and beauty consultant. She was a friend I knew through
Sisterlocks program. I met her in 2008 or thereabouts. I wouldn't be
surprised if an American is being granted an opportunity some Nigerians
would grab such as participating in the MBGN but at what cost? At lying
about their age, changing their hues and circumstances. For a pageant
that disqualifies a woman based on reports of investigations on marriage
or having a child, who asked about Miss Nnadi?
I
didn't have the benefit of watching the show. I'm jobless and can't
fuel my generator even if I can endure the noise for a few hours to
watch MBGN pageant show. And no, I wouldn't ask Miss Iheoma Nnadi to
return her crown if she's who she's - Nigerian by birth. But if she's
Miss Martine Bernard of Boston Massachusetts, then I would like her to
do the right thing. Many of us have had to make tough decisions. I don't
know what lies ahead of all of us. I implore Silverbird Group to make
their investigations right and not disqualify one and make many
'married' women 'Girl' for prize money or freebies.
What's
the worth of a betrayal? I haven't betrayed you my dear friend Martine
Bernard. I would be happy for you to clinch a well deserved crown. Don't
settle for Iheoma Nnadi if she's a hoax.
